Tierradentro area is located in the Colombian Central Cordillera and extends from the Puracé volcano in the south to the north Nevado del Huila; in the east it reaches the canyon and the valleys of the Paez River and its tributaries, and from the west to the moors and peaks of the edge of the ridge.
In Tierradentro are different climates temperate, to continue the cold, plumed and perpetual snow, where the climate varies with altitude and direction of the winds, which blow hot from the east, from the plains of Huila; however the humidity is constant, as the average annual rainfall reaches up to 200 days.
Tierradentro was so named because they belong to a department with a topography of mountainous knots and deep canyons; Because of this, the Spaniards called inland because they were locked up in the mountains.
This belongs to the list of those magical places built by companies of farmers and potters who carved burial chambers, they carved statues of volcanic stone and goldsmith worked surprisingly.
At present, this territory is inhabited by the Paez Indians who arrived in the region after the conquest.
